Dr. Jacqueline Sasaki
Jacqueline L. Sasaki, MD, joined Dr. Wingfield in August 2007. Dr. Sasaki, a board certified dermatologist, moved to the Gulf Coast with her baby boy and husband, also a skin expert, Dr. Geoffrey Sasaki, Chief of Dermatopathology at Keesler Air Force Base. Dr. Sasaki was born and raised in a military family, having spent the majority of her primary education overseas in the American Embassy’s international elementary and high schools in Germany.
Dr. Sasaki attended Haverford College, Pennsylvania, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, completing her senior thesis and research in immunology. During this time, Dr. Sasaki was named an NCAA Academic All-American for accomplishments of academic and athletic excellence while competing as a varsity middle-distance runner and basketball player.
With a strong background and interest in molecular immunology, Dr. Sasaki earned a 2-year pre-doctoral fellowship award at the National Cancer Institute where she studied a novel cytokine, IL-15 and its related unique regulatory, signaling and biologic activities.
Following the completion of her NIH fellowship, Dr. Sasaki returned to her home state to attend the University of New Mexico’s School of Medicine. Dr. Sasaki distinguished herself in academics and research, earning numerous awards including the American Medical Women’s Association highest honor for graduating first in her medical school class. Dr. Sasaki also earned University of New Mexico’s highest honors for performance in academics and medical research. She also was elected a member of the national Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and remains an active member today since her induction as a medical student.
Dr. Sasaki completed her internship in Internal Medicine and Residency in Dermatology at the University Of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She was named Outstanding Intern and earned the University’s highest honor for excellence in medical research. Dr. Sasaki served as Academic Chief Resident and elected Resident Texas State Representative to the Board of Texas Dermatology Society. Dr. Sasaki was also identified as a young future leader in dermatology by the Society for Investigative Dermatology.
Following residency, Dr. Sasaki served as a volunteer faculty member to one of the Nation’s largest dermatology residency programs at National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda, Maryland before finally moving to the Gulf Coast July 2007.
Dr. Sasaki enjoys all aspects of dermatologic care including the care of skin cancer, immunobullous diseases, psoriasis, inflammatory dermatoses and all aspects of adult and pediatric medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology.
Dr. Sasaki is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology, a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. She is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the American Medical Association, the Women’s Dermatology Society, the Dermatology Foundation, the National Psoriasis Foundation and the Mississippi State Medical Association.
In her free time, Dr. Sasaki enjoys many outdoor activities and play with her two young children and husband. She likes running middle distance events with the Gulf Coast Running Club as well as playing tennis with friends.
