Mohs’ Surgery
Mohs’ micrographic surgery is a specialized procedure for the removal of skin cancer. Mohs’ surgery allows for immediate and complete microscopic examination of the removed cancerous skin tissue. This allows for the highest potential cure rate for skin cancer up to 98-99%. Mohs’ surgery also removes the least amount of tissue necessary to clear the skin cancer which offers superior cosmetic results. Not all skin cancers are appropriate for the Mohs’ technique; however, those cases that are located in cosmetically sensitive or functionally critical areas, cancers that are large and aggressive or rapidly growing, recurrent skin cancers, or tumors that have ill defined margins meet the criteria for Mohs’ surgery.
