Junior Glow is a customizable facial created specifically for preteens and teens age 18 and younger. The treatment combines a deep cleanse, appropriate acne extractions, DiamondGlow® skin resurfacing and personalized skin-care education.

Each appointment is tailored to the patient’s skin type, sensitivity and concerns. The goal is to improve the appearance of the skin while helping younger patients develop simple, healthy habits they can continue at home.

How does Junior Glow work?

Junior Glow includes DiamondGlow, a noninvasive treatment that combines exfoliation, pore extraction and customized serum infusion.

A recessed diamond-tip wand gently removes accumulated surface cells while controlled suction clears oil and debris from the pores. A selected SkinMedica® Pro-Infusion Serum is delivered onto the freshly resurfaced skin during the treatment.

The diamond tip, suction strength and serum are customized according to the patient’s skin and comfort level.

What concerns can Junior Glow improve?

Junior Glow may help improve the appearance of:

  • Clogged pores and blackheads
  • Mild blemishes
  • Excess oil
  • Dry or dehydrated skin
  • Rough or uneven texture
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Dullness
  • Uneven-looking skin tone
  • Mild post-acne discoloration
  • Keratosis pilaris
  • Reduced skin radiance

Junior Glow is a cosmetic facial and is not a substitute for medical acne treatment. Persistent, painful, cystic or scarring acne should be evaluated by a dermatology provider.

What areas can be treated?

Junior Glow can be customized for several areas, including the:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Décolletage or chest
  • Back
  • Arms
  • Legs

Back treatments may be helpful for mild congestion or body breakouts. Treatments on the arms or legs may help improve rough texture associated with keratosis pilaris.

What happens during treatment?

The appointment begins with a conversation about the patient’s skin, current products, sensitivities and concerns. The skin is then thoroughly cleansed.

A licensed aesthetician performs DiamondGlow using a carefully selected diamond tip, suction level and serum. Appropriate blackhead or acne extractions may also be performed when they can be completed without unnecessarily irritating the skin.

The appointment concludes with personalized education about cleansing, moisturizing, sun protection, acne care and selecting products suitable for the patient’s age and skin type.

What serum will be used?

The serum is chosen according to the patient’s skin and primary concerns. Available options may include formulas intended to support:

  • Hydration and dry skin
  • A brighter, more even-looking complexion
  • Congested pores and acne-prone skin

SkinMedica Pro-Infusion Serums are cosmetic products intended to improve the appearance and condition of the skin. They are not medications and do not diagnose, treat or cure acne or another skin disease.

Why is skin-care education included?

Preteens and teens are often exposed to complicated routines and strong products promoted through social media. Using too many active ingredients can lead to dryness, irritation or worsening breakouts.

Junior Glow includes practical guidance about:

  • How often to wash the face
  • Choosing a gentle cleanser
  • Using a lightweight moisturizer
  • Applying sunscreen every day
  • Avoiding picking and squeezing blemishes
  • Introducing acne products safely
  • Recognizing when professional acne treatment is needed
  • Building a routine that is simple enough to follow consistently

Product recommendations are based on the patient’s skin rather than trends or a one-size-fits-all routine.

How long does Junior Glow take?

A Junior Glow appointment generally takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour. The exact length depends on the treatment areas, the condition of the skin, the number of appropriate extractions and whether enhancements are included.

Is Junior Glow uncomfortable?

Junior Glow is generally comfortable and relaxing. During DiamondGlow, the patient may notice gentle suction along with a mildly scratchy, prickling or stinging sensation.

Extractions may cause brief pressure or tenderness. The diamond tip and suction level can be adjusted to help keep the treatment comfortable.

When will results be visible?

The skin may feel smoother, cleaner and more hydrated immediately after treatment. The complexion may also appear brighter and more refreshed as temporary redness settles.

Patients with clogged pores, recurring blemishes or uneven texture may notice greater improvement through a consistent series of treatments and an appropriate at-home routine.

How many treatments are recommended?

A single Junior Glow facial can provide a temporary refresh and introduce the patient to professional skin care.

For more progressive improvement, The Dermatology Clinic generally recommends an initial series of six treatments followed by maintenance appointments approximately every four to six weeks. The schedule may be adjusted according to the patient’s skin, concerns and response.

How long do the results last?

Many patients continue to notice a refreshed glow for several weeks. Results may last up to approximately six weeks when supported by consistent cleansing, moisturizing, sun protection and other recommended home care.

Results are temporary because oil, dead skin and pore buildup naturally return over time.

Is there any downtime?

Junior Glow generally involves minimal downtime. Most patients can return to school, sports and normal daily activities shortly after treatment.

Temporary effects may include:

  • Mild redness
  • Slight swelling
  • Tightness
  • Dryness
  • A scratchy or stinging sensation
  • Temporary sensitivity

DiamondGlow’s manufacturer identifies temporary tightness, redness, slight swelling and a scratchy or stinging sensation as typical possible effects.

What enhancements are available?

Junior Glow may be customized with optional enhancements when appropriate for the patient’s age, skin and goals.

  • Lip infusion therapy: A focused enhancement intended to hydrate, smooth and temporarily plump the appearance of the lips.
  • Eye radiance therapy: A treatment designed to hydrate and smooth the delicate skin around the eyes.
  • Lip or brow waxing: Unwanted facial hair may be removed to complement the facial.
  • Brow tinting: Tint may be applied to temporarily darken and define the brow hairs.
  • Superficial peel: A gentle peel may be added to address concerns such as dryness, clogged pores or mild blemishes when the skin can tolerate additional exfoliation.
  • Dermaplaning: Dermaplaning removes accumulated surface cells and fine facial hair. When combined with DiamondGlow, it creates a Diamond Dermaplane treatment.

Not every enhancement is appropriate for every patient. The aesthetician will recommend options that will not unnecessarily irritate young or acne-prone skin.

How should the skin be prepared?

Before the appointment:

  • Avoid tanning and excessive sun exposure
  • Arrive with clean skin and no makeup when possible
  • Avoid scrubs and aggressive exfoliation
  • Tell the aesthetician about all prescription and over-the-counter acne products
  • Report recent waxing, peels, laser treatments or other facial procedures
  • Mention any allergies or previous reactions to skin-care products
  • Report an active rash, cold sore, sunburn, open wound or significant irritation

Retinoids and other exfoliating products should generally be discontinued at least three days before DiamondGlow unless the treating provider gives different instructions.

How should the skin be cared for afterward?

After treatment:

  • Use a gentle cleanser
  • Apply an appropriate moisturizer
  • Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher
  • Avoid tanning and unnecessary sun exposure
  • Do not pick, squeeze or scrub the skin
  • Avoid harsh acids, retinoids and exfoliating products until advised they can be resumed
  • Follow the customized routine recommended by the aesthetician

Daily sunscreen is especially important after exfoliation because the skin may be temporarily more sensitive.

Who is a good candidate for Junior Glow?

Junior Glow may be appropriate for patients age 18 and younger who are beginning to experience oiliness, blackheads, mild breakouts, dryness, rough texture or uncertainty about how to care for their skin.

The treatment can be customized for many skin types and tones. An individual evaluation is still important because not every skin condition should be treated with exfoliation or suction.

Who may need to postpone treatment?

Junior Glow may need to be postponed or modified if the patient has:

  • Sunburned, chapped or broken skin
  • An open wound
  • Active, weeping or severely inflamed acne
  • An active cold sore
  • A significant eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis or rosacea flare
  • A bacterial, viral or fungal skin infection
  • A known allergy to a proposed serum or topical product
  • Recently undergone another procedure that has not fully healed

DiamondGlow should not be performed on compromised skin, including sunburned, irritated, broken, actively weeping or infected areas.

What makes Junior Glow different?

Junior Glow is designed around the needs of younger skin. The diamond tip, suction strength, serum, extractions and home-care recommendations are customized rather than following the same routine for every patient.

The educational portion also helps preteens and teens understand why breakouts occur, how to avoid unnecessary irritation and how to maintain a realistic daily routine.
