Targeted treatment for the skin and scalp
The Lumera system includes specialized attachments that allow treatment to be adapted to the location of your condition. A spot handpiece delivers UVB light to affected areas of skin that are not covered by hair. Different treatment patterns can be used to accommodate the size and shape of the area being treated.
For conditions affecting the scalp, a fiberoptic brush helps carry UVB light through the hair and deliver it directly to the skin. This allows our team to treat areas that may be difficult to reach with conventional phototherapy.
How Lumera Light Therapy works
UVB light can help control inflammation, slow the overproduction of skin cells associated with certain conditions and support the return of pigmentation in areas affected by vitiligo. Your provider will determine the appropriate light intensity, treatment duration and number of appointments based on your diagnosis, skin type, treatment area and response to therapy.
Lumera Light Therapy is performed under the direction of a dermatology provider. Protective eyewear is worn during treatment, and areas that do not require treatment are protected from unnecessary ultraviolet exposure.
Is Lumera Light Therapy right for you?
Your provider will evaluate your condition, medical history, medications and previous treatments before recommending phototherapy. Because many conditions treated with UVB light are chronic, a series of appointments may be needed to achieve and maintain improvement.
Schedule an appointment with The Dermatology Clinic to learn whether Lumera Light Therapy may be an appropriate part of your personalized dermatology treatment plan.
